Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit is a distinguished Orthopedic Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UNIMAS. His educational journey commenced at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where he completed the Doctor of Medicine program in 1994. Subsequently, he pursued advanced studies in Orthopaedic Surgery, specializing as a Medical Specialist, and successfully concluded his studies in 2001, all at the same esteemed institution. Notably, he is an esteemed Member of both the National Specialist Registry and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. Moreover, he holds a life membership with the esteemed Kenyalang Foundation, and his expertise is sought as an advisor for the Sarawak Pediatric Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Rasit’s extensive expertise lies firmly within the realm of orthopedic surgery. He holds the pivotal position of Senior Orthopedic Consultant at Sarawak General Hospital, wherein he provides exceptional clinical services to referred patients. His pivotal role led him to initiate pediatric orthopedic clinical services at Sarawak General Hospital in 2002, responding to the escalating influx of pediatric orthopedic cases from various hospitals across Sarawak.
The year 2005 marked a significant milestone in Dr. Rasit’s journey, as he was granted the prestigious “Ilizarov and Limb Reconstructive Fellowship” by the Australian Foundation. This accolade enabled him to secure placements at renowned institutions including Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. In recognition of his prowess, he was bestowed the title of Honorary Visitor Specialist at the esteemed Department of Orthopedics, Royal Melbourne Hospital, in 2005. The enriching experience of his time in Melbourne enriched his skills significantly, particularly in the realm of managing pediatric orthopedic complexities, with a specialized focus on reconstructive and Ilizarov procedures.
Dr. Rasit’s ardour for orthopedic research is palpable, with a pronounced emphasis on spinal tuberculosis, pediatric orthopedic conditions, and the intricacies of wound healing. His contributions to the medical profession have been instrumental in upholding exemplary medical practice standards in Malaysia. Serving as a member of the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) from 2006 to 2012, and receiving an extension of his tenure from 2014 to 2017 by the Minister of Health Malaysia, further solidified his role in this regard. His endeavours extend to the realm of medical education standards maintenance within Malaysia, underscored by his appointment by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as a member of the Accreditation Visit Panel, entrusted with accrediting medical programs across a spectrum of public and private medical institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Beyond his distinguished clinical commitments, Dr. Rasit is also a proactive participant in the landscape of university management at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). His trajectory includes a tenure as Deputy Dean (Undergraduate & Student Development) from 2006 to 2012, and subsequent appointment as Dean from 2012 to 2019 in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Beginning 2019 until December 2023, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Internationalisation) then in January 2024, appointed as the Vice Chancellor. He has assumed the role of a Board of Directors for UNIMAS Business School since 2020.
A testament to his standing, Dr. Rasit was conferred the esteemed title of Honorary Commander for Kor SUKSIS of UNIMAS by the Director of the Department of Crime Prevention and Community Safety of the Royal Malaysia Police in 2020. This role remains a distinguished honour he currently holds. Additionally, his stature led to his appointment as the Deputy Chairman for the Committee of Deputy Vice Chancellor/Rector (Academic and International) of Public Universities of Malaysia, a role he undertakes for the term 2023-2024. His multifaceted contributions reflect a commitment to excellence across the domains of academia, medicine, and community engagement.
YBhg Prof Ts Dr Norazah Abd Rahman is a distinguished professor of chemical engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia. Her illustrious academic journey includes a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2006, undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Duluth,
and the University of Missouri, Rolla, USA, and a master’s degree in Non-Destructive Testing from Brunel University, United Kingdom in 1996.
Professor Norazah’s exceptional leadership qualities have earned her several significant positions within the university. She currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) UiTM, Malaysia, where she has played a pivotal role in promoting scholar activities such as grant acquisition, academic writing, commercialization of research products and setting up spin off and start-up companies
among the university’s staff. Under her leadership, the majority of the university’s 9,000 staff have produced the aimed publications. She has also held various other key positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Dean of the Industry, Community and Alumni Network (ICAN) at the College of Engineering, UiTM. During her tenure as ICAN Dean, several international collaborations and partnerships between industries and universities were established through MOUs and MOAs.
Professor Norazah’s passion for improving processes and systems has led to the development of innovative solutions such as the College of Engineering Quality Online Reporting (COENQUER) and the Integrated Alumni Database. Her efforts have resulted in over two thousand students receiving internships at various international and industrial organizations.
Professor Norazah’s expertise in engineering field has been globally recognized as she has been appointed as the Fellow of the Chartered Energy Engineer and Chartered Petroleum Engineer at the Energy Institute, United Kingdom, and at national scene she is one of the National Industry Experts for Machinery and Equipment for Non-Destructive Testing. She has published over 100 indexed articles, earning her the
position of Editor-in-Chief of the Malaysian Journal of Chemical Engineering and Technology. As a researcher, she has successfully obtained more than 50 research projects from various sectors with a total amount of over RM7 million. Her success in obtaining high-impact grants includes, PETRONAS Research-Renewable Energy Grant, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTI) grant and the People’s
Republic of China’s grant for research cooperation between UiTM and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) worth over RM4 million.
Professor Norazah and her team’s outstanding achievements include the faculty being ranked in the top 200 in the world by QS Ranking by Subject in Chemical Engineering in 2017 and in the top 250 in 2018. The faculty also being recognized by QS Ranking by Subject for Petroleum Engineering, ranking in the top 150 in the world in 2021. She has received numerous awards, including the Leadership Award from UiTM, the Best Professor in Chemical Engineering, and the Obelix Award from the British Invention Show. She has also received gold and diamond awards for various innovation and invention competitions.
Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin received bachelor’s degree (1992) in Biochemistry, specializing in Clinical and Industrial Molecular Biotechnology and M.Sc. in Biochemical Engineering (1993), from the University of Manchester.
In 1993, he joined Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and was a Senior Researcher in Molecular Microbiology, Enzymology and Industrial Biotechnology, until 2012. His research experience and expertise include Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Pharmacogenomics for Secondary Metabolites, Molecular Enzymology for the synthesis of Nano based Biomaterials (Cyclodextrin and Nano Cellulose); and Industrial Biotechnology (Bioreactor Design)
After being promoted to as a Consultant in 2012, in SIRIM, he was given a responsibility in developing Technology Strategic Planning for SIRIM Group of Companies, mostly responsible for Technology Road Maps Planning (Biotechnology and Nanotechnology), including International Research Collaboration with KRIBB, South Korea and Fujisawa Pharmaceuticals, Japan; R&D Strategic Planning and STI Development.
In January 2014, he was seconded to National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC), under Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia; as Research & Technology / Product Development Section Head.
He was appointed as the Acting Director of National Nanotechnology Centre, for a year in 2019. Since early 2020, he is reappointed again as the Research & Technology / Product Development Section Head by the Government of Malaysia.
In early 2022, he re-joined SIRIM Berhad as a Consultant in the Group Strategic Planning Department, focusing on Rolling Plans Development for the SIRIM Group in alignment with the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Since July 2022, he has been serving as a Senior Consultant in SIRIM Tech Venture, a subsidiary of the SIRIM Group, mandated as the technology adaptation, transfer, and commercialization arm of the SIRIM Group.
